In addition to showcasing MIKE Powered by DHI’s hydrological solutions at our booth, we also took the opportunity to highlight the Aqua Republica Eco Challenge 2016, which is fully supported by the NZHS.
Held annually, the NZHS Conference has come a long way. It has moved on from just straightforward hydrology to cover a variety of disciplines that contribute to understanding hydrological processes. This year’s conference theme was ‘From Data To Knowledge’ and was attended by 200 participants from a range of universities and research institutes in New Zealand.
Topics of the conference included climate, transportation of contaminants, soil, flood management, water quantity limits, general hydrology, surface water hydrology, connection between groundwater and surface water, monitoring and data management, as well as aquifer hydrology. A number of workshops and field trips accompanied the presentations.
Graham Macky, Principal Engineer of DHI New Zealand’s Water Resource Department, presented a paper titled ‘Low flow modelling to detect rating perturbations’. The well-received presentation introduced the MIKE 11 Rainfall-Runoff (RR) NAM model applied to identify trends in a 500 km2 catchment. Rose Jowsey, our MIKE Powered by DHI and THE ACADEMY by DHI Business Coordinator, ran a mini Aqua Republica competition at the DHI booth in which participants from the University of Waikato, National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research as well as Marlborough Regional Council emerged winners.
