Helping Rajkot, India assess water losses

DHI India, in cooperation with Leif Koch (a leak detection technology company), will help the Indian city of Rajkot reduce the amount of water it loses to leaks.

Located in the west Indian state of Gujarat, the municipal corporation of Rajkot estimates that the city loses 20-30% of its water. However, it is unable to figure out where the leaks are occurring in its water system. To better understand the problem, Rajkot has signed a contract with the Danish Water Forum to assess water losses in the supply system. DHI India and Leif Koch will carry out the project.

Along with Leif Koch, we will conduct a water audit to systematically evaluate the city section by section in order to map the leaks. By implementing a gauging system, we can examine a specific part of the city to identify where losses from the drinking water system occur. This will enable the municipal corporation to prioritise repairs, fixing larger leaks first before gradually fixing all leaks in the system. In the long run, the improved resource management will save the municipal corporation both money and water.
