Our support to Chevron on the Wheatstone Project to continue

The Wheatstone LNG Project, located in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, is one of Australia’s largest resource projects. Since late 2008, we have provided wide-ranging support to Chevron’s environmental team on the Wheatstone project.

The Wheatstone LNG Project, located in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, is one of Australia’s largest resource projects.

Since late 2008, we have provided wide-ranging support to Chevron’s environmental team on the Wheatstone project. Until Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval in 2011, this included numerical modelling and expert advice to quantify and reduce the potential impacts to the marine environment. Our services included:

• Development of receptor tolerance limits for turbidity and sedimentation
• Sediment plume modelling and impact assessment for dredging
• Coastal sediment transport and morphological impacts assessment for coastal components
• Modelling of hydrocarbon spill and discharges of produced water and grey water both offshore and nearshore

Following the EIA approval, we continued to provide assistance to Chevron. We evaluated environmental risks during the tendering phase and provided inputs to programme optimisation from an environmental perspective.

During the dredging phase, scheduled for 2013 – 2016, we will continue to work with Chevron in an advisory role to ensure that the environmental objectives are met. This will include provision and interpretation of comprehensive modelling and remote sensing data.
